Earth airport radars can be seen through strange civilizations

Airport radar systems may be, similar to those tracking aircraft, by accidentally indicating our presence of intelligent exotic civilizations, IFLSCIENCE.com Reports.

Instead of picking up television broadcasts – like the old episodes of the Simpson family – you can discover extended extended to strong radio waves that leak from the land radars, especially military situations. Researchers estimate that these signals can be discovered up to 200 light years.

Every time the airport radar wipes the sky to the planes, it sends radio waves to space. With more than 40,000 airports around the world (many equipped radar), the common signal is enormous – 2 x 10⁵ watts. A strange civilization can be discovered with technology such as the Green Bank telescope in West Virginia, these emissions.

Military radar systems are more distinctive. They focus heavily, and sweep the sky like a beacon. Although it constitutes only 5 % of the total emissions, its unique patterns will clearly emerge as artificial for any advanced observers.

“Civilizations can actually transfer signals without the desire to do so inadvertently,” said lead researcher Ramiro Caes Side of Manchester University.

“We have a technique here and we produce radio emissions. We want to understand whether a sufficient technology civilization can discover our radio emissions.”

Previous Sayed’s work found that cell tower signals may be discovered within 10 light years. Airport radar, however, reaches further.

The team simulated how these signals appear from various stars systems. Since the radar distribution is not uniform, the force will differ depending on the direction of the Earth to the observer.

Located with a well -known external planet, the nearest star with a well -known external planet is located. While 200 light years may appear small in a galaxy spanning 100,000 light years, it still contains more than 120,000 stars-a large number of potential listeners.

“SETI is a field of study that uses scientific methodologies to assess the question whether we were united in the universe; we use technology as an alternative to intelligence,” I explained.

“My research idea is to try to understand this: If we have a civilization there with the same capabilities in the field of radio, can they discover our radio imprint?”
