Neuralink makes you see unreal things

Neuralink, founded by Elon Musk, presented the first data on the tested stick -to -nervous transplantation process, designed to restore vision.

During experiments, the device was used on monkeys and allowed them to respond to the non -existing visual images. This was reported by the company’s engineer Joseph Odeeriti at the Neurological Faculty Conference, reports Bloomberg.

Bnrasight stimulates the brain areas responsible for visual perception. According to O’Doherty, in two cases out of three cases, the monkeys turned their eyes to the intended object that the researchers were trying to “re -create” in their minds. This data was the first general confirmation of technology, which mimics vision functions.

Bnrasight is part of the Neuralink program to create computer facades in the brain. In the short term, the company plans to use technology to help people with visual disabilities. In the future, the company plans to expand the device’s capabilities to include infrared visualization.

BNDSIight has not been currently approved for human use. However, Musk previously said that the company hopes to start human clinical trials this year.

The test in monkeys was continuing for several years. O’Doherty says animals have a visual crust closer to the surface of the brain, which facilitates access to the areas they need.

Neuralink also develops other neurological transplants, including devices that allow paralyzed patients to control computers with their ideas. To date, five people have received the transplant. Three of them will be in 2024, and two in 2025. Some participants use the system for up to 60 hours a week.

A poster was presented at the conference that describes the experiment in which the spinal cord was stimulated using Neuralink. As a result, the animal muscles began to move.

Research is also conducted in this field by other scientific groups that teach the possibilities of kinetic functions through nervous stimulation.

Neuralink sees its developments step towards creating more efficient human ways to interact with digital systems. Musk has already said that such technologies can reduce the potential risks associated with the development of artificial intelligence. In parallel, it develops projects in this field through Xai.

In the future, Bnorsight may be completed with external devices, such as glasses, which will work in conjunction with the transplant.
