Wing maze – Okham

0

On the edge of the wing village in Okham, there is a lumping grass maze- technically a maze- is 14 meters long and is believed to date back to the Mivel period. It is an old monument that some believe in more than 2,500 years. However, from or why it was made is somewhat mystery, only seven others of its kind survive in England.

Theories

The “wing” is the name of the Nawras, and the settlers in the north can early building a maze to remind them of the stone pursuit that were spread through the Scandinavian countries.

The suite maze is cut in the standard Cartres design, similar to the famous maze in the Carter Cathedral in France. Local plans of the nineteenth century show a little different style, indicating that it has been changed at some point.

In the vicinity is Thorny Abbey, which dates back to the Middle Ages, and since the mazes of this kind were often part of the rituals, it would be predicted that the ancient monks had built the maze. A media council on the site proposes a link to the Christian Crusades –

“Instead of traveling to Jerusalem, people walked, or they may have gone on their knees around a maze as part of a spiritual journey.”

Folklore is connected with fertility rituals and APOTROPAIC. It is believed that the rituals that occurred here will include people who crawl on their way on their hands and knees in expiation for their sins.
